Away From

Home

For almost a century, the Haji Ismail Haji Allana Charitable Trust

has sheltered patients, uplifted students, and stood beside the

vulnerable — with dignity and care.

A legacy of compassion

spanning generations.

The Trust’s roots reach back to 1920, when the plot of land for the sanatorium was leased for the purpose of serving patients in need. The sanatorium was subsequently established, laying the foundation for a lasting legacy of care and service. In 1934, the Scheme of the Trust was framed by the High Court of Bombay, setting out the framework governing the Trust and its charitable purposes. Following the enactment of the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950, the Trust was formally registered in 1952 under the Act, bearing Serial No. B-506, Bombay.

For decades, the Trust has been committed to serving patients and their families by providing accommodation at subsidized rates to those who travel to Mumbai from across India and abroad for medical treatment, particularly cancer care. Mumbai is home to several specialised hospitals and medical institutions, and patients often need to stay in the city for extended periods during their treatment. For many families, the cost of accommodation can add a significant financial burden at an already challenging time.

Our aim is to provide a safe, affordable, and supportive place to stay, helping ease this burden and offering patients and their families a sense of comfort and dignity during what can be a challenging period in a patient’s life.

    we hold the door open.

    — Haji Ismail Haji Allana Charitable Trust.

For almost a century, the Trust has offered something simple and irreplaceable: a clean and hygienic environment amid greenery and open spaces, a safe place to stay, and a familiar kindness — to every musafir who arrives in Mumbai not for holiday or business, but because someone they love is unwell. Our subsidized accommodation sits close to the city's major hospitals, so that the journey from ward to rest is never more than it needs to be.

We ask nothing of you but your need. From private rooms for patients and their accompanying family members to financial assistance for students and welfare programmes for widows and the elderly, every initiative is rooted in the founding principle of seva - service without condition. The Trust has served continuously for decades, because the need for its work has never ceased.

    How to request a Room

    Step 1

Reach out — your first call is the hardest one

Before you arrive in Mumbai, call or write to us. Tell us your name, when and where you are travelling from, and which hospital your patient is visiting. That’s all. No complicated forms, no unnecessary paperwork — just a conversation with someone ready to help.

    Step 2

Bring your medical referral — nothing more

When you arrive, carry a letter or appointment slip from your treating hospital or doctor — Tata Memorial,  KEM, HNCII, or any recognised Mumbai facility. This referral helps us ensure our rooms reach those who need them most.

    Step 3

Set down your bags. You are home now.

Check in and settle into our subsidized accommodation, where we hope you’ll feel at home from the moment you arrive. No musafir crosses this threshold alone. Accompanying family members are welcome. Your energy belongs to the one you are caring for -  leave the rest to us.
